The 2026 Europe Triathlon Championships in Tarragona are sponsored by Suzuki Ibérica, the driving force behind triathlon.
The Port of Tarragona will be the epicentre of the competitions, in which more than a thousand triathletes (elite, paratriathlon and age groups) from all corners of the continent will participate. It will host the start and finish lines, the transitions, the athletes’ Expo, and the final running leg of the event will also take place in this area, making it more accessible and a complete experience for participants and spectators, who will be able to follow the competitions with ease.
The standard distance event consists of a 1,500-metre swim, a 40-kilometre cycle and a 10-kilometre run, while the sprint distance event is half that (750-metre swim, 19-kilometre cycle and 5-kilometre run). In the age group category, drafting, or riding in a slipstream or peloton, is not permitted in the standard distance event, whereas it is permitted in the sprint event.
The schedules for the different events have also been finalised. On Saturday 13 June, the age group sprint competitions will start at 8am, while the senior elite women’s competition will start at 3:30pm and the senior elite men’s competition at 6:30pm. On Sunday 14 June, it will be the turn of the standard competition for age groups only, starting at 8am. From 3pm, the triathletes in the paratriathlon category will be in action.
The 2026 Europe Triathlon Championships in Tarragona will be made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, Europe Triathlon, Tarragona City Council, the Government of Catalonia, Tarragona Provincial Council, Port of Tarragona and the Catalan Triathlon Federation, with Suzuki Ibérica as the main sponsor.
Tarragona, a World Heritage Site by UNESCO
Tarragona is the only Catalan city declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on three occasions: for its Roman legacy, its castells (human towers), and its Mediterranean gastronomy.
The city is attractive due to its history, cultural activities and sports events. The castells and major festivals attract citizens and tourists alike, and Tarragona has been recognised as one of the 50 best places to visit by The New York Times.
Open to the Mediterranean, the city is a well-established natural destination, with 15 km of coastline at Tamarit, giving rise to beaches of fine golden sand and crystal-clear water. Its paths, beaches and green spaces create an ideal environment in which to enjoy a day with family and friends.
Visit Tarragona 365 days a year and discover the Roman Amphitheatre and the Ferreras Aqueduct, both declared World Heritage Sites in 2000. Explore the heart of Tarragona while shopping at the Central Market or the Mercadet de Bonavista, the largest outdoor market in the city. Immerse yourself in the local culture: taste romesco sauce, rice à la marinière, and Tarragona DO wine.
