Rumia Crowns Europe’s New Duathlon Champions

By media@europe.triathlon.org | 29 Apr, 2025

Rumia delivered an unforgettable weekend of racing as it hosted the 2025 Europe Triathlon Duathlon Championships, welcoming over 500 athletes from across the continent. From elite stars to promising juniors, U23 athletes, para-athletes, and a vibrant Age Group community, the event showcased the very best of European duathlon.

In the elite men’s race, France’s Emile Blondel Hermant claimed the European title with a powerful performance, finishing in 50:34 ahead of Italy’s Davide Menichelli and fellow Frenchman Benjamin Choquert. In the elite women’s field, Spain’s María Varo Zubiri raced to victory in 56:59, holding off a strong Italian challenge led by Noemi Bogiatto and Alice Bagarello.

The U23 categories highlighted the next generation of talent. Italy’s Davide Menichelli not only stood on the elite podium but also captured the U23 men’s European title, with Poland’s Kamil Kulik and Kuba Gajda earning silver and bronze in front of their home crowd. In the U23 women’s race, Italy’s Noemi Bogiatto added another European title to her name, finishing ahead of France’s Camille Laurent and Poland’s Aleksandra Ferchmin.

Among the juniors, Romania’s Carol Popa delivered an impressive race to take the Junior Men’s title, while Poland’s Hanna Foltyniewicz delighted the home supporters by winning the Junior Women’s crown. Across both junior races, emerging talents from Poland, Italy, Belgium, and Portugal battled fiercely for the podium places.

Beyond the elite and junior races, hundreds of Age Group athletes competed across sprint and standard distances, embodying the true spirit of the championships. From the youngest categories to the most experienced masters, the Age Group races brought passion, determination, and a shared celebration of multisport, making Rumia a vibrant center of European duathlon for the weekend.

The championships were widely praised for their excellent organization and warm atmosphere. Europe Triathlon President Marc D’hooge, attending his first event in his new role, commented: “The Labosport team and the Polish Triathlon Federation organised an excellent Duathlon European Championship, well backed up by our ETU team that provided professional technical support required for such a high quality event. Poland will host 5 ETU races this year, and I look very much forward to deepen our cooperation with our two key Polish partners in the near future.“

With Labosport, the Polish Triathlon Federation, and the local authorities working hand in hand, Rumia not only met expectations but raised the bar for future championships. It was a true celebration of sport, community, and European excellence — one that will be remembered for years to come.

Now, all eyes turn to Spain as we head towards the Europe Triathlon Multisport Championships in Pamplona. We can’t wait to see the community reunite for another incredible celebration of multisport! Find out more information about the event here
