Melilla will host the Europe Triathlon Sprint and Mixed Relay Championships in Elite, U23 and Junior
International triathlon competitions will continue to take centre stage in the Autonomous City of Melilla, which this year will host the European Elite Sprint Triathlon Championships for the first time in its history.
With the experience and competence that comes from ten years of organising international competitions, with the different editions of the European Cup, the Autonomous City of Melilla faces the challenge of organising, together with the Spanish Triathlon Federation and the ETU, the biggest continental Triathlon competition.
The main elite triathletes of Europe will meet in the City of Melilla during the weekend of 19 and 20 July to challenge for the European titles in sprint distance and with the elite category competitions that can be followed live thanks to the RTVE broadcasting. In addition to the elite individual competitions, the event will also host the European Under 23 and Junior titles, as well as the Elite/U23 and Junior titles in the European Mixed Relay Championships.
The European Triathlon Cup brought together in Melilla last season almost 200 athletes from 23 countries, including a large Spanish national representation. France’s Emma Lombardi and Britain’s Cameron Main won two hard-fought races.
Europe Triathlon president, Renato Bertrandi says: “The Europe Triathlon Sprint & Mixed Relay Championships in Melilla marks an exciting milestone for the city and Europe Triathlon as a whole. With a decade of experience in hosting top-tier international competitions, Melilla is poised to deliver an exceptional event that will not only showcase the talent of Europe’s best triathletes but also highlight the city’s commitment to sustainability and safety. We are thrilled to continue our collaboration with the Spanish Triathlon Federation and local authorities to make this Championship a memorable and successful occasion. I look forward to seeing athletes, fans, and the triathlon community come together in Melilla for this prestigious event.”
