Banyoles hosted the 2026 Europe Triathlon Aquathlon Championships on Saturday, 18 July, the penultimate event of the 2026 Europe Triathlon Multisport Championships.
In the men's elite race, Spain dominated proceedings, sweeping the podium in a remarkable display. Jonay Álvarez produced a sensational run to claim the European title, finishing ahead of Hugo Fernández, who secured elite silver and the U23 European crown, while Kevin Tarek Viñuela completed the Spanish clean sweep with bronze.
Spain also completed podium sweeps in both the U23 men's category, where Raúl Gómez and Gorka Rodríguez joined Fernández, and the junior men's race, with Álvarez taking gold ahead of Lucas Riola and Arcadi Sala.
The women's elite title went to Slovenia's Tjasa Vrtacic, who held off Spain's Marina Muñoz by just eight seconds to become European Champion. Muñoz added elite silver to the cross triathlon gold she won earlier in the week. Hungary's Jazmin Kropkó claimed elite bronze while also securing the junior European title after an impressive performance that saw her lead during the early stages of the run.
In the women's U23 race, Alina Sinevich claimed the European title ahead of Croatia's Iva Pavlovic, with Spain's Marta Novo taking the bronze medal. Spain's Gemma Valentina Llabrés finished sixth overall in the elite race, while junior athlete Julia Benito crossed the line ninth overall.
The paratriathlon races also produced memorable performances. Spain's Diana Gómez Liern claimed the PTWC women's European title, while Iván Espejo de la Fuente took silver in the men's PTWC event. In the PTVI category, Marcos Garnica Haro earned silver and Diego Guerrero Moreno secured bronze, while Javier Martínez Moreno claimed the European title in the PTS4 category.
