Quarteira kick starts the 2026 season

The Europe Triathlon Cup returns to Quarteira, Portugal on 28th and 29th March kick starting a busy year of triathlon around Europe.

Around 250 triathletes from more than 20 countries are expected to compete.

Saturday, 28 March, will  see the elite competition start, featuring approximately 130 international triathletes. In the men’s race, scheduled for 4:30 PM, a strong host nation contingent of 11 athletes will take to the start line, including Vasco Vilaça, bronze medallist at the 2025 World Championships.

In the women’s race, scheduled for 1:45 PM, a highly competitive field will line up, featuring athletes from across Europe. Among them is Olympian Maria Tomé, alongside a number of fellow Portuguese competitors.

The race also includes some of the sport’s leading names, notably current European champion Jolien Vermeylen of Belgium, who is currently ranked seventh in the world—underlining the depth and quality of the field.

Sunday, 29th March, will be see the start of the  Europe Triathlon Junior Cup, bringing together one of the largest national representations in recent years. More than 25 athletes from the host nation are expected to compete, with over 16 men and 11 women lining up on the start list as part of over a 100 strong starting list.

The junior races further highlight Quarteira’s role as a key venue for developing emerging talent, offering young triathletes valuable international racing experience in a highly competitive environment.

The event will be streamed live on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.
