The 2026 Europe Triathlon Multisport Championships concluded in spectacular fashion in Banyoles on Sunday, with the Middle Distance Triathlon, the Europe Triathlon Aquabike Championships for Age Group athletes and the Triatló de Catalunya bringing nine days of world-class racing to an end. More than 3,000 athletes from across Europe competed throughout the championships, which showcased the very best of multisport racing in the stunning setting of Lake Banyoles.
The Middle Distance Triathlon featured a 1.9km swim, an 83km non-drafting bike course and a 14km run, shortened from the scheduled 21km due to high temperatures to prioritise athlete welfare.
In the men's race, Spain's Mike Arrasate claimed the European title in 3:10:38 after a commanding performance. Arrasate and defending champion Guillem Montiel led the race from the opening swim and remained together throughout the bike before Arrasate pulled away on the run to secure gold by almost a minute. Montiel earned silver, while Belgium's Tom Vaelen completed the podium with bronze ahead of compatriot Joran Driesen in fourth.
The women's race saw Italy deliver a dominant performance, with Marta Bernardi and Sara Sandrini controlling the race throughout. Bernardi, silver medallist in 2025, produced a decisive run to capture the European title in 3:45:12, finishing ahead of Sandrini. Spain's Helena Alberdi secured the bronze medal after holding off compatriot María Vilas.
