Hosting a Europe Triathlon Cup for the first time, Tata delivered an exciting weekend of racing, with both elite events coming down to thrilling run finishes.
Elite Men
Germany claimed a one-two in the Elite Men's race, with Lasse Lührs taking the victory after a hard-fought battle with compatriot Benedikt Bettin. Bettin entered T2 in the lead, but Lührs' race-best run split proved decisive as he surged clear in the closing stages to win by eight seconds.
Lührs stayed with the lead group throughout the bike leg, where around 10 athletes shared the workload at the front and ensured the race would be decided on foot. Although Bettin exited T2 first, the compact nature of the lead pack meant Lührs was quickly able to bridge the gap before making his decisive move with around one kilometre remaining to secure the gold medal.
Eliite Women
The Elite Women's race followed a similar script, with a large lead group setting up another exciting battle on the run.
Germany's Selina Klamt led the swim in 9:35, narrowly ahead of home favourite Zsanett Kuttor-Bragmayer. The Hungarian produced the quickest first transition to briefly take the lead, but a strong chase group quickly came together on the bike, with several powerful riders driving the pace.
Hungary was well represented at the front heading into T2, with three athletes in the lead group, and Kuttor-Bragmayer once again showcased her speed through transition to lead onto the run. However, Slovakia's Margareta Vrablova soon reeled her in before steadily extending her advantage, crossing the finish line more than 30 seconds clear to claim an impressive victory.
Australia's Matilda Offord produced one of the standout performances of the day to secure the silver medal. After leaving T2 in 12th place, Offord carved her way through the field with a 17:25 5km run—the second-fastest split of the race—to claim her second Europe Triathlon Cup silver medal of the season, adding to her runner-up finish in Wels last month.
Only Vrablova was quicker on the run, her race-best 17:12 split proving the difference as she underlined her strength over the final 5km. After finishing sixth in Tiszaújváros on her previous visit to Hungary, the Slovakian returned to the country to take a memorable victory.
Poland's Joanna Woźniak completed the podium after another impressive charge through the field. Like Offord, she started the run well outside the medal positions but produced a strong 5km to claim bronze. Following difficult outings in Rzeszów and Olsztyn, the podium finish marks a welcome return to form and provides valuable momentum heading into the remainder of the season.
