2026 Europe Triathlon Multisport Championship Banyoles
Banyoles is preparing to host the best Multisport European Championships in history, to be held between 11 and 19 July 2026, and from today, registrations are open for the various events that make up its condensed competition calendar, allowing age-group triathletes to confirm their participation from now on in the great continental celebration of duathlon, cross duathlon, cross triathlon, aquathlon, middle distance triathlon, and aquabike.
At this 2026 Europe Triathlon Multisport Championships, with Banyoles and the surroundings of its impressive lake as the sole venue, not only elite, U23 and junior triathletes will take centre stage. Paratriathletes and amateur athletes or age-group triathletes will also flock to this town in Girona to be part of the great continental triathlon festival, which is expected to attract a strong presence of British, French, Italian and Spanish participants, mainly.
The official routes for each segment (swimming, cycling and running) for the age-group races are already available at this link:

The 2026 Europe Triathlon Multisport Championships are organised by the Spanish Triathlon Federation, Europe Triathlon and the Banyoles City Council, with the collaboration of the Spanish Sports Council, the Government of Catalonia, the Girona Provincial Council and the Catalan Triathlon Federation.
Banyoles, an international benchmark in triathlon
Located in the heart of the province of Girona, capital of the Pla de l’Estany district, Banyoles is a city deeply connected to nature and sport. Its surroundings—dominated by the Banyoles Lake and framed by hills, forests and trails linking the Pyrenees with the Costa Brava—offer exceptional conditions for outdoor sports. This combination of landscape, climate and tranquillity makes Banyoles a privileged setting for both competition and active, nature-based tourism.
Just twenty minutes from Girona and less than an hour from the beaches of the Costa Brava and the Pyrenees, Banyoles enjoys a strategic geographical location. Its proximity to Girona–Costa Brava Airport and to major transport routes connecting Barcelona with southern France makes access easy for athletes and visitors from across Europe. Many take advantage of their stay to discover the cultural, gastronomic and natural attractions of the area, consolidating Banyoles as a leading destination for both sport and tourism.
Banyoles’ connection with triathlon dates back to 1986, when the city hosted the first Olympic-distance Catalonia Triathlon. Since then, 38 editions have been held, making it the oldest triathlon still active in Catalonia and the second oldest in Spain. This sporting legacy has contributed to forging a strong local tradition and a community deeply rooted in the practice of triathlon.
Since 2011, and without interruption, the Banyoles City Council, in collaboration with the European Triathlon Union (ETU) and the Spanish Triathlon Federation (FETRI), has organised annual high-level competitions included in national and international calendars. Over the years, the city has hosted prestigious events such as the European Triathlon Cup, the European Junior Championships, and various Spanish and Catalan championships. Among its most notable milestones, Banyoles hosted a Triathlon and Paratriathlon World Cup in 2019, an event that reinforced its reputation as an international benchmark and demonstrated its capability to successfully host competitions of the highest technical and sporting level—a trajectory that will culminate with the 2026 Multisport European Championships.
These competitions represent a major organisational challenge and mobilise hundreds of volunteers, associations and institutions whose commitment guarantees the success of each edition. The sporting events not only strengthen the local community and the activities of Club Natació Banyoles—an historic institution and driving force of triathlon in the city—but also generate a positive economic impact on local businesses and services.
Particularly noteworthy is the strong involvement of the local population and, especially, the hundreds of volunteers whose dedication and enthusiasm enable Banyoles to remain a model of excellence in the management and organisation of international sporting events. The steadfast commitment of the City Council to promoting sport, together with the active participation of its citizens, has consolidated Banyoles’ status as a true European capital of triathlon.
