Guatape ready for the ITU Triathlon World Cup

Guatape, a small town in the region of Antioquia in Colombia, has gained momentum for the ITU Triathlon World Cup to be held in October this year with the successful 2011 Guatape ITU Triathlon Pan American Cup on Sunday, which also counted as the Caribbean Championships.

Spain dominated the men’s field with Jose Miguel Perez (ESP) and Miguel Angel Fidalgo (ESP) finishing first and second and Carlos Javier Quinchara Forero (COL) securing third place to meet local fans’ expectations. The winner clocked 1 hour, 56 minutes and 36 seconds.

In the women’s field, Maydelin Justo (CUB) claimed gold, clocking 2:17:06. Carolina Grimaldo (COL) and Pamela Nascimento Oliveira (BRA) came in second and third respectively.

According to the result, the Caribbean Championship titles went to Quinchara Forero and Justo.

Coldeportes Nacional and the Colombian Olympic Committee fully supported the event.
