XTERRA CZECH REPUBLIC TO HOST CROSS EUROPE TRIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS

By media@europe.triathlon.org | 12 Feb, 2025

After a successful collaboration in 2021 with the first-ever co-branded event in Italy, Europe Triathlon and XTERRA have announced Prachatice, home of XTERRA Czech Republic, as the host of the 2025 Cross Triathlon and Cross Duathlon European Championships.

The Czech Republic hosts the oldest race in the XTERRA Global Tour, with a history dating back to 2002. Prachatice is a small town in the south of the Czech Republic, only 50 km from the border with Austria and Germany. “For our town, XTERRA is always one of the biggest events on the calendar. We hope all the athletes will enjoy staying in our beautiful town,” said Jan Bauer, the mayor of Prachatice.

The race itself is a challenging mix of swimming in the pristine Kristanovicky Lake, followed by a point-to-point bike course through Šumava National Park, and finishing in the historic Renaissance square of Prachatice. XTERRA Czech Republic will serve a dual role as an XTERRA World Cup event and the official Europe Triathlon Cross Triathlon and Cross Duathlon European Championships.

The program will kick off on Thursday, 7th August with the duathlon races in Prachatice. The course consists of an 8 km run in two loops close to the main race venue, followed by a 22 km single-loop bike course featuring a mix of man-made trails and old forest gravel roads, and concluding with a second 4 km run loop. Triathlon races for Youth, Juniors, U23, Elite, and Age-Group athletes will take place on Saturday 9th August. The main race will feature a 1.5 km swim in two loops, a 33 km point-to-point bike course, and a two-loop 10 km run course. Youth B and Juniors will compete on a 750 m swim, 14 km bike course, and 5 km run.

Europe Triathlon President Renato Bertrandi commented, “Europe Triathlon is really happy to confirm that the 2025 European Championships of Cross Triathlon and Duathlon will take place in collaboration with XTERRA. We had an excellent experience in Paganella in 2021, where the event was co-hosted with XTERRA and later awarded ‘Best Race’ at our President’s Conference in La Nucia. I am sure that the 2025 edition, held in Prachatice, a beautiful small town near the Austrian/German border, will be a great success. The Czech Federation has built a strong relationship with Europe Triathlon over the years and is actively supporting this event. I want to thank President Antonin Bauer and the entire Board for their support. I warmly invite all athletes passionate about this discipline to take part in this European Championship.”

The President of the Czech Triathlon Association, Antonin Bauer said “I am proud of our organisers and look forward to welcoming competitors who will experience the beauty of the Czech Republic and our strong partnership with European Triathlon.”

With the dual prestige of the XTERRA World Cup and the Europe Triathlon Championship, the biggest names in cross triathlon are expected to compete. One of the strongest female athletes in recent years, Prachatice-born Aneta Grabmüller Soldati, expressed her excitement: “I am beyond excited to race the European Championships on home soil! Prachatice is the perfect location for cross triathlon, and I can’t wait to be part of it!”

Looking forward to seeing you out on this iconic race course!
