Triathlon for all at Melilla Sport Capital on March 19th alongside the Elite and Junior 2023 European Cups

Tri fans turn their attention to Melilla this weekend for an action packed weekend of racing. The collaboration of the Autonomous City of Melilla and the Melillense and Spanish Triathlon Federations will allow for a wide range of spectacular competitions starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 19th, with the Melilla Sport Capital Triathlon, open to the general public and also a qualifying event for the National Triathlon Ranking. The Melilla youth will also have fun with the Pho3nix Kids Triathlon Series by Javier Gómez Noya at noon, as a prelude to the international events.

On March 19th, Melilla will once again come alive with the presence of the best triathletes competing in the Triathlon European Cup, whose presence will be felt starting from Thursday and Friday in the city, and especially on Saturday with the recognition of the swimming and cycling segments. The junior races will be held at 1:45 p.m. for women and 3:30 p.m. for men. The Elite competitions will start at 5:15 p.m. for women and 7 p.m. for men.

During the morning, the qualifying event for the National Triathlon Ranking will take place, starting at 10 a.m. Registration is open until 10 p.m. on Friday, March 17th. At 11:30 a.m., races for children from the Pho3nix Kids Triathlon Series by Javier Gómez Noya will begin, open to participants in the Pre-benjamin to Cadet categories. Results of the 2022 Triathlon European Cup Melilla

French triathlete Cassandre Beaugrand, who later won the World Triathlon Series in Leeds, the European Champion title with the French Mixed Triathlon Relay team in Munich, won the 2022 Triathlon European Cup Melilla ahead of her compatriot Leonie Peirault, second, and the Danish Alberte Kjaer Pedersen. In the Elite Men the french triathlete Dorian Coninx, who later won the bronze medal in the Individual Triathlon European Championship in Munich, as well as gold in the Mixed Relay, was the winner in the 2022 Melilla event, ahead of the British Barclay Izzard and the French Tom Richard.

The big joys of the day for Spanish triathlon came in the junior category, where Helena Moragas and David Cantero won the victory. Moragas won followed by the also Spanish Elsa Pena. Letizia Martinelli, Swiss, won the bronze medal. In the men’s race, David Cantero won with the Spanish Miguel Guzmán in second place. Third was the Belgian Raf de Dobbelaere.
