Following last year’s successful debut at the University of Alicante in Spain, the conference will gather some of the world’s best triathlon coaches and administrators along with some of the pre-eminent sports scientists to combine the latest sports science research and practical experience into usable information.
The theme of the three-day conference is ‘reflect on the past – design the future’ and represents the scientific lessons that triathlon coaches applied through the years leading up to the London 2012 Olympic Games, and what science has learned that can now be applied to designing the pathway to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
A number of highly respected keynote speakers will be invited to present on one of the sub-themes which are the periodisation and impact of competition structure, nutrition and recovery, the implication of new competition formats such as sprint and the mixed relay, and talent identification. The preliminary programme includes sessions on physiological development and differences, differing experiences and examples of periodisation across endurance sports, competition analysis, and roundtable discussions on introducing new formats: effects on training and health-risks, periodisation for elite triathletes and innovation in Talent ID for triathlon. As in Alicante, academics are invited to submit scientific papers and posters which will be on display during the conference. Guidelines for submissions are available here
