2016, well, it has started and we have already seen the first of our medals being worn by successful athletes. We have news of our first development camp of the year and there is a lot of hard work being done behind the scenes by Event Organisers and by Technical Delegates in advance of the many races that will take place in 2016.
But ... And it is a big BUT … 2017 is not so far away and we need to continue the hard work.
ETU is looking for National Federations, Host Cities and Local Organising Committees to host events for the 2017 season.
What events are open for bidding?
Well, the U23 ETU European Championships is one. This year it will be raced in Burgas, Bulgaria and so any potential bidder should consider coming to this event and working with Emil Stoynev (Race Director) and Mary Clare Bancewicz (Technical Delegate). By coming to the event you will see the work that is required to put on such an important race. By working with the Race Director and Technical Delegate you will get an in-depth view of just what is needed to ensure our athletes have a great race.
Next up is the series of events that are classified as “Multisports”.
- ETU Winter Triathlon European Championships;
- ETU Aquathlon European Championships;
- ETU Cross Triathlon European Championships;
- ETU Duathlon European Championships;
- ETU Cross Duathlon European Championships.
As for the U23 bids, ETU encourages those interested in bidding to visit the events and to work with the Race Directors and Technical Delegates. All of the Technical Delegates selected to be in charge of a Championship event are very experienced and will work closely with you to ensure that the delivery of the 2017 events is as successful as possible. If you want to know who the Technical Delegate is, just check the ETU Wesbite and you find their name with e-mail contact details.
We have already had a stunning Winter Triathlon Championship in Estonia. This event, hosted by the city of Otepää really took Winter Triathlon to a new level of excellence that has not yet been surpasssed.
Aquathlon has been a strong favourite for athletes for many years. After a series of great races in Köln (Germany) the 2016 event moves to Châteauroux in Central France.
Our Cross Triathlon race this year will be hosted alongside the Xterra event in Switzerland.
Duathlon medals will be fought over in Kalkar (Germany).
The Cross Duathlon battle will be in Târgu Mureș, in the Transylvania region of Romania.
Our athletes; Age Group and Elite, Para and Junior, Teams and U23 all want good races. 2015 was a hugely successful year for us as the profile of our events was well and truly raised. ETU aims to maintain and improve that standard of delivery through 2016 and to build onwards to 2017. You can be part of that team.
Without our youth athletes we have no future. It is truly thrilling to see the enthusiasm in our younger athletes and with the European success in the Youth Olympics it is clear that we are getting something right in Europe. Once again we invite bids for the ETU European Youth Triathlon Championship & Festivals. The aim of this event is to feature:
- A multi-day programme exceeding the sport of triathlon;
- An opportunity for young athletes to compete and meet. Therefore we will accept mixed teams from different NF/nationality, who will not be entitled to become the European Champion;
- Media and internet coverage, which makes hosting attractive for sport tourism and the global brand of the host cities;
- The possibility to have on a yearly base, the stakeholders of the Youth & talented athletes’ movement together.
Do you want to be part of the foundation of our future Olympians? Please then consider submitting a bid.
The success of club racing in Europe has been seen for a number of years now. The atmosphere at any event is electric but something happens when clubs get together. Somehow the athletes give more, race harder and cheer their club mates louder. Sadly the inaugural event in Nice in 2015 had to be cancelled due to a deadly storm that ripped through Southern France. This year, 2016, we will see that event take place in Banyoles, Spain.
If you are interested, the ETU Triathlon Club European Championships will feature:
- An event on a mixed relay format European clubs. Please note that if there are more than 22 clubs participating the event will be over a semi-final/final format;
- Significant prize purse for clubs;
- Media and internet coverage, which makes hosting attractive for sport tourism and the global brand of the host cities.
Please follow the links below for all the bid documents.
