The ETU and International Powerman Association (I.P.A) would like to bring to the attention of the NFs the opportunity to compete in the 2012 European Duathlon Championships.

The competition will be held on 28 and 29 April 2012 in Horst De Mass in the Netherlands.

Duathlon has been invited to be part of the 2013 World Games and this unique weekend offers the perfect chance to capitalise on the popularity of the sport.

On Sunday 29th April, the Long Distance European Championships will begin with a 15km run (6 laps), followed by a 60km cycle (3 laps) and a final 7.5km run (3 laps). This race will begin at 0900.

The Sprint European Championships will take place later in the day from 1300 onwards.

The Sprint event follows the same course but over a 5km run/ 20km cycle/ 2.5km run.

Powerman International Association are offering an early bird entry offer of 115€ for LD and 85€ for Sprint. From March 29 this will be 135€ for LD and 95€ for the Sprint.

The ETU and Powerman are urging all National Federations to send as many athletes as possible to these Championships across the Elite, Junior and U23 fields.

John Raadschelders, President of the I.P.A. said: “This joined European Championship Duathlon is a strong message to all National Federations that the ETU and Powerman want to create more awareness for Duathlon or Run-Bike-Run as it was called in the early days.

“For every National Triathlon and Duathlon Federation it is important to know that the Olympic Committees are open to the next step in the implementation of Duathlon but they want to see representatives of at least 20 countries at the start of the European Championship Duathlon.

“So this is important for all of us.”

These sentiments are echoed by the European Triathlon Union. President Philip Schädler said: “I do hope that as many athletes as possible take part at the first ETU Powerman Long Distance European Championships.

Together we can make it a remarkable event, along with the short distance Junior and Age Group European Championships, which will be unique.

For every 2012 ETU Powerman participant there will be an exclusive Powerman race suit.
