Once, twice, ten times a champion. Stojanović reigns supreme.

By Paul Groves | 16 Sep, 2018

This weekend’s stand out performance came from Serbia’s Ognjen Stojanović, who sealed victory and closed over a decade of racing success. The women’s race saw the title go to fellow Serbian athlete, Vida Medic , ensuring that the Serbian celebrations lasted long into the night.

For the Junior Women, victory went to Tjaša Vrtačič SLO, who shared the top place on the podium with Croatia’s Luka Grgorinić, whose run pace was simply too fast for anyone to better.

Stojanović said, after the event, “10-a uzastopna pobeda na Balkanskom prvenstvu i ETU kupu na Ohridu u Makedoniji.
10th consecutive victory at the Balkan Championship and ETU Cup at Ohrid in Macedonia. I closed the circle of 12 years since my first Balkan junior was the same in Macedonia in 2006. It’s time for the younger generation to “take over” this race, so since I managed to win 10 senior titles of 10 appearances, this is probably my last performance in the Balkan Championships.

Thank the audience, coaches, all triathlons / triathletes and members of the Triogy Racing MKD at cheerleading - like at home I was competing! Congratulations to the organizers for their efforts and good organization, See the Women’s Wins as well as Last Year’s Silver in the Cadet Competition, and I congratulate Peer from Germany at 2nd place (ETU Cup), and friends Butturini (HR) and Planko (SLO) 2nd and 3rd place in Balkan. “We are realists - we do impossible things.”

Vrtačič had time as well after the race to comment, “For me, the last race in the season, which I completed in the best possible way - by winning the Balkan Championship in the sprint triathlon. The second win in the season and a good achievement on the ETU competition in Zagreb will probably bring me enough points to rank among the top 5 in the rankings of European juniors, which will be a great achievement. The Balkan Championship will remain in my memory for the excellent organization, extremely friendly people and wonderful nature. Thank you Ohrid! Congratulations to others

Thanks for support!
Hvala Ohrid! Čestitke ostalim
Hvala za podporo!

We are awaiting some official photos and as soon as we have them will update the gallery but from the reports coming back from everyone who was there, the venue was simply superb.
