Europe Triathlon Middle Distance Duathlon Championships Cancelled for 2023

It is with regret that Europe Triathlon announces the cancellation of the 2023 Europe Triathlon Middle Distance Duathlon Championships. Despite significant efforts to find an organiser in collaboration with IPA (that for a long time has been our partner in the organisation of this event), we have been unable to secure a suitable venue for the event, leading to the decision to cancel the championships for this year.

The cancellation of the Middle Distance Duathlon Championships is a disappointment for athletes across Europe who were looking forward to participating in the event. The competition is a showcase for the best duathletes in Europe and is always a highlight of the triathlon calendar.

Despite the cancellation of the event, Europe Triathlon is committed to continuing to promote the sport of duathlon throughout Europe. Our partner, IPA, is already looking ahead to future events and is actively seeking an organizer for the 2024 Middle Distance Duathlon Championships.

Europe Triathlon Cup/Junior Cup Yenisehir Postponed Due to Earthquake in Türkiye

The recent earthquake in Türkiye/ Syria has resulted in devastating consequences for many citizens of the country, including the postponement of the 2023 Europe Triathlon Cup/Junior Cup Yenisehir. The event was scheduled to take place on April 8-9th but has been postponed due to the catastrophic aftermath of the earthquake.

The Europe Triathlon is currently in negotiations with the Turkish Triathlon Federation about the postponement of the races to the end of the season, presumably in October. The decision to postpone the event was made after careful consideration of the situation on the ground in Türkiye, where thousands of people have been displaced from their homes and are in urgent need of assistance.

Renato Bertrandi, President of Europe Triathlon said:

“A terrible earthquake has shaken Turkey and Syria only a few weeks ago. The city of Yenisehir has been partially affected and is now the place where thousands of evacuees have been placed. For that reason the date of April the 8th for the European Cup cannot be maintained and the race on that day has to be cancelled. We are working with the Turkish NF to confirm the race in the last part of 2023. I want to use this occasion to send the European Board and my personal condolences to our Turkish friends”.

Bayram Yalçinkaya, Turkish President, has said:

“It is with regret that we announce that the Yenişehir event scheduled for April, 2023 in our nation has been postponed due to a significant disaster having serious ramifications for eleven cities and over fifteen million citizens. The affected population has been relocated to different cities throughout Türkiye, with one such location being Mersin/Yenişehir, which is currently hosting the highest number of individuals and is expected to have little to no vacancies for at least three to four months. We humbly request understanding from all parties involved and athletes across Europe. Thank you for your respect and support during those hard days”

The postponement of the Europe Triathlon Cup/Junior Cup Yenisehir is a significant setback for athletes across Europe who were looking forward to participating in the event. However, the decision to postpone the race was made in the best interest of the safety and well-being of all involved. The Europe Triathlon and the Turkish Triathlon Federation are committed to working together to ensure that the event takes place later in the year when conditions in Türkiye have improved.
