What an amazing weekend in Chicago !

Have you looked at the results though? Did you see just how many European athletes got onto the podium ?

Gold medals to Lindemann (GER), Merle (FRA) and Mola (ESP) and silvers to Périault (FRA), Stanford (GBR ), Sönkse (GER), Castro (ESP) and Gomez (ESP) and bronzes to Miller (NOR), Santos (POR), Holland (GBR), Oliveras (ESP) and Bergère (FRA).

Of the 18 medals that were up for grabs in the Elite, U23 and Juniors European athletes won 13. If we look further to the Para Athletes, then out of a total 30 medals available, European athletes came away with 15.

Age Group participation shows that once again the European Age-Group athletes are more than ready to travel long distances to race and, for some, to come back with world titles and medals.

Why are we so strong in Europe? Well, we’ve been around for longer than most; we can offer athletes a great schedule of races; we have a dedicated team of technical officials who work closely with event organisers and most of all we have the great variety of locations that Europe can offer.

Each of you out there who has put on an event;

each of you who have worked at an event as a volunteer;

each of you who has officiated, participated or supported our events have played, in your own way, a part in making triathlon such a great sport in Europe and in so doing you have helped these athletes on their way to the podium.

2015 was a great year and now it is time to look to 2016. With the calendar pretty well sorted we still need to see bids come in for the European Cup events and for the Multisport events.

This year we have seen a great improvement in the way that organisers have been marketing their events.
