Gyor is prepared for the duathlon World Champs

By World Triathlon Admin | 18 Mar, 2007

Gyor is making good progress in preparations for Duathlon WChs, which will be held on 19-20 May. This year it is going to be one of the greatest sport events, but for Gyor, it is surely the most significant. It requires great responsibility from the Local Organising Committee (LOC). ’’St. Istvan street- which is running through the city on east-west direction - is going to be the centre of the race.’’ - Peter Molnar, president of LOC said on press conference in Budapest.

According to Imre Szekeres who is the president of Hungarian Triathlon Union, the city is ready for the race. Guarantee for good competitions is Triathlon European Championships in 2002.

Gergely Márkus, the Secretary General of European Triathlon Union informed the press that together with the amateur competitors about 1000 participants are expected from about 40 countries. He also added, the International Triathlon Union is positive towards Hungarian tenders, as what the organisers undertake, they fulfil.

Reka Brassay –  silver medallist in team – said, they were getting ready for the competition with her mates with great expectancies. As she knows, besides the opponents they will also have to cope with the technical course.

The official opening ceremony is going to be on 18 May, and the next day the junior, U-23 and adult elite competitions are going to be held. The seniors will start on Sunday and the closing event will be the team relay.
