Alanya is back - note in your diary for 22-23 September 2018
One of the really good things about the Annual ETU Congress, is that the Federations get a chance to sit down with each other and with members of the ETU Executive Board. This was particularly important for the Turkish Triathlon Federation - Türkiye Triatlon Federasyonu.
With a new President leading them, Bayram Yalçınkaya, born in 1977 and an active triathlete, having raced internationally in both ETU/ITU events and over longer distances, he has brought new life into the Federation and following a detailed discussion with ETU President, Renato Bertrandi, confirmation has been given that the iconic event, held every year as an international event for almost as long as Almere, is back on the calendar.
The last time we were able to witness just how welcome athletes were at the venue, was in 2016 when ETU awarded the event the title of ETU Cup Final. The 26th celebration was a big one and the celebrations went on late into the night.
Alanya was always about making athletes feel welcome. Even last year, they went ahead and held the race to maintain that long run of years. With their open triathlon attracting large numbers of Dutch, German and Russian competitors and providing the domestic Turkish triathletes with a golden opportunity for racing, along with the 5k Sea Swim offering cash prizes in a variety of categories, the triathlon weekend was a big end of season attraction. This year, with the exchange rates now very good for visitors, the 28th edition of Alanya Triathlon could be a real bonus for athletes wanting to boost their points tally in the ETU Rankings Race.
