Austrian Age Group athletes clean up at European Cross Triathlon Championships
The Austrian Age Group athletes celebrated a successful European Cross Triathlon Championships on home soil as they won 21 medals at Strobl am Wolfgangsee.
Eleven National Federations shared the medals, with Germany’s athletes also celebrating a successful 15 medal haul.
In the 18-19 Men’s category, Malte Plappert led home a German one-two with Johannes Hinterseer in second and Vass Benedek (HUN) completing the podium.
The 20-24 Women’s category was an all Austrian affair as Daniela Kratz, Jacqueline Meister and Sandra Daschner made it onto the podium. In the Men’s category, Thomas Kerner won gold for Germany ahead of Mario Siller (AUT) and Colin Clement (FRA).
Sabina Rzepka (POL) won gold in the 25-29 Women’s category with Maria Weissenbacher (AUT) second and Claire Hodgkiss (GBR) in third. In the Men’s category, Martin Schädle (GER) was victorious with Daniel Fankhauser (AUT) claiming silver ahead of countryman Sebastian Tscheing.
It was an Austrian one-two in the 30-34 Women’s category with Monika Dorfner leading Christina Herbst. Natalie Smith (GBR) picked up the bronze medal. Jan Pyott (SUI) won gold in the men’s category with Lars Erik Fricke (GER) and Patrick Strobich (AUT) completing the podium.
In the 35-39 Women’s category, Tina Wirths (GER) finished ahead of Martina Donner (AUT) and Maria Kring (DEN). In the Men’s category, Alessandro Bonalumi won Italy’s only Age Group gold with Yann Rithner (SUI) second and Daniele Cantamessa (ITA) third.
Amelie Vantomme (FRA) won gold in the 40-44 Women’s category with Anja Jedynak (GER) claiming silver and Tamara Rautner (AUT) winning bronze. The Men’s category produced another Austrian one-two with Alexander Fruhwirth and Raimund Stanger finishing ahead of Mauro Garavaglia (ITA).
In the 45-49 Women’s category, Barbara Alber and Tina Hausmann won gold and silver for Germany. Gerald Will (AUT) won gold for Austria with Johan Neevel (NED) and Bernd Uebersezig (GER) finishing second and third respectively in the Men’s category.
Another Austrian double in the Women’s 50-54 category, this time Karin Daschner won gold with Regina Helfenbein-Follmann taking the silver medal in second. Heike Steininger won the bronze medal. Wolfgang Ertl (AUT) repeated the feat with gold in the Men’s category ahead of Emanuele Polga (ITA) in second and Ivo Grabmuller (CZE) third.
In the 55-59 Men’s category, Manfred Huber (AUT) was victorious ahead of Nicholas Farnell (GBR) and Jac Derix (NED).
Karin Schulz (GER) won gold in the 60-64 Women’s category. Wilhelm Wagner (AUT) won gold in the 60-64 Men’s category with Heinz Mende (GER) second.
There was a German double in the 65-69 Men’s category as Gunter Weichhold finished ahead of countryman Steffen-Luis Neuendorff.
Finally, there were gold medals for Endre Szebeni (HUN) in the 70-74 Men’s category and Peter Grutsch (AUT) in the 75-79 Men’s category.
