Are you up to the Challenge? ETU Middle Distance Championships - Herning

By Paul Groves | 18 Apr, 2017

ETU offers athletes the choice of races over all sorts of distances and in a variety of configurations. It is the championship events that draw the big crowds and ETU has, for the past few years, worked closely with The Challenge Family to deliver quality middle and long distance events.

This year’s Middle Distance Championships are due to be held in Herning in Denmark. Mark Kromann
, Event Director - Operational, sends us the following short update on their event.

The official ETU Middle Distance European Championship will this year take place in Denmark. Herning, a city known for its engagement in sports and international championships will host the annual triathlon party for Europeans racing to take home that special medal.

Herning has a history of hosting sports championships that goes beyond most cities’ wildest dreams – including the Giro d’Italia start in 2012. This year, they will use their expertise in sports events to create a professional and impressive set up for the European athletes.

Challenge Denmark, the organization behind Challenge Herning, has announced that the course will be spectator friendly and filled with power zones from sponsors. The swim takes place in the calm and beautiful Fuglsang Lake, the bike course will be fast and stunning and the 4 laps and the spectator friendly run course will take you inside the city’s library. Something never seen before.

It’s not just the courses that are planned to the smallest details but also the many different side events always surrounding a triathlon race; such as the pasta party, race briefing etc. that are of great importance to the organizers. The Pasta Party, race briefings and award ceremonies will all be hosted by Messecenter Herning, a local cultural house in a professional setting.

“We know how important it is to athletes to have everything gathered in one place, close to the race area. Messecenter Herning is therefore the perfect location for all the events before and after the race, since it’s located in the centre of Herning”, explains Race Director Claus Vesterby.
