Let’s make 2018 the year for the Age Group athlete.
We saw late last year that the organisers of Weert (ETU Triathlon Standard Distance European Championships, 2019) had opened their 2018 event up to Age Group athletes, so that they can get a feel of the event ahead of the 2019 Championships.
Well, we have great news for you.
The Spanish Triathlon Federation, Federación Española de Triatlón – FETRI, who will be hosting several major events this year, have a very nice offer for you all.
The New Year Resolutions will have taken you to the gym or out on long rides or runs, or to the pool and now, after just a few days, you will be able to feel the improvement, the focus and the power coming back in to your bodies.
What better way to put all that training into perspective than to race on the international circuit and to race the open events at the numerous ETU Triathlon European Cups.
As we have explained previously, most of the ETU Triathlon European Cups (whether they are Junior or Elite events) will have open events running alongside the main show. These events will use pretty much the same course and will offer a “blue-carpet finish” under the ETU Finish Gantry. Not only do you get a chance to race a top-quality closed-road circuit but you also get good value for money.
Come and race in your national uniform – the local media will love it and if you make enough noise there is every chance you will get your photo in the local press.
So, what is on offer?
First up, FETRI is offering you the chance to race in the Canaries.
Last year this event was a real favourite amongst the athletes. The sun was shining and the crowds were out.
This year, you will have the chance to be part of this event.
You can follow the build-up and chatter by liking their Facebook Page.
The Gran Canaria event will feature a special “early season” test event for women only. For anyone just starting out in triathlon, or anyone returning from injury, this is a great opportunity to race over the supersprint distance. This race will be open ONLY to women but the Standard and Sprint Distances will be open to all.
Just look at the entry fees !
- POPULAR - DISTANCIA OLÍMPICA 35 € (Open Standard Distance)
- POPULAR - DISTANCIA SPRINT 30 € (Open Sprint Distance)
- TRIATLÓN DE LA MUJER 25 € (Open SuperSprint – women only)
Check out their video by clicking the next photo.
With Gran Canaria in March, you can then consider the Weert event in June and then back to Spain in the September.
Valencia takes place in early September. The venue for the 2004 ETU Triathlon European Championships and the 2017 Spanish National Championships, this year will see one of the bigger events in Spain with an anticipated total of some 4,000 participants. You can expect a true fiesta.
Once again the entry fees are very competitive
- POPULAR - DISTANCIA OLÍMPICA 55 € (Open Standard Distance)
- POPULAR - DISTANCIA SPRINT 50 € (Open Sprint Distance)
- TRIATLÓN DE LA MUJER 30 € (Open SuperSprint – women only)

What a great way to plan your year.
Three top-class events for you to race at without breaking the bank.
