A magical President’s Conference and Annual Gala in Prague

By media@europe.triathlon.org | 22 Feb, 2024

Following the success of the Samorin conference last year, the annual President’s conference and Gala returned to an in-person format in Prague, graciously hosted by the Czech Triathlon Federation. It was a joy to see familiar faces, and our gratitude goes to our hosts for their warm hospitality and seamless organisation throughout the weekend.

The conference weekend began with the Europe Triathlon Board meeting the previous day, where crucial issues for 2024 were discussed, laying the groundwork for strategic planning and collaboration. The main conference day featured a concise yet insightful agenda covering finance, development, paratriathlon initiatives, marketing, governance, and more. Insightful presentations from the LOCs of this year’s main championships were also given, building the excitement for what is to come this season and beyond.

The day concluded with the Annual Gala Ceremony, recognizing outstanding contributions to the world of triathlon. Award winners included:

  • Adrien Briffod (SUI) as Male Athlete of the Year
  • Audrey Merle (FRA) as Female Athlete of the Year
  • Daniel Molina (ESP) as Male Paratriathlete of the Year
  • Marta Francés Gómez (ESP) as Female Paratriathlete of the Year
  • Alpar Nagy (HUN) as Male Technical Official of the Year
  • Raquel Gonzalez Cascales (ESP) as Female Technical Official of the Year
  • Belgium as National Federations of the Year
  • Estonia as the Developing National Federation of the Year
  • Balikesir as the Local Organizing Committee of the Year

…and last but not least Marisol Casado (ESP) received the Executive Board Award for her outstanding contributions to the sport over the years!

The Gala took an unexpected turn when a surprise cake arrived to commemorate the 40 years of Europe Triathlon. The spontaneous celebration added a delightful touch to the evening, offering a brief but enjoyable pause to acknowledge the organisation’s four decades of contributions to the world of triathlon.

Looking ahead, the next Congress is scheduled for Vichy, and Renato Bertrandi, Europe Triathlon President, expressed gratitude to all attendees, highlighting the positive atmosphere and motivation felt during the Gala, setting the stage for continued success.

With the Presidents Conference and Annual Gala now over for another year the focus now turns to the first Europe Triathlon Cup and Junior Cup in Quarteira on the 23rd of March.
