By media@europe.triathlon.org | 23 Feb, 2022

It was a record year for the event with 207 athletes competing overall. The age group races were packed with athletes who completed the race and brought home medals for their own nations. Italy was the clear winner overall with 17 golds, 17 silvers and 11 bronze medals. Germany was second and Austria came third.

Renato Bertrandi, the ETU president after the race said: “In Asiago we had a great weekend of Sport. After hosting 2 editions of the World Winter Tri Champs this year, in conjunction with the World Cup, the best European Triathletes raced with perfect snow conditions for the European Title. The discipline of Winter Tri is great and, even if we have reached record numbers with 12 NFs at the start, there is great margin for improvement. The “big” northern NFs that are leading in Cross Country Skiing once more were missing, leaving the Russian Federation the opportunity to dominate the Elite field with full podiums in men and women. For this discipline to take off, we need the famous “Olympic Dream”. World Triathlon is seriously working on it and, with a combined strategy, we are entitled to “dream”. Congratulations to all the Athletes, FITri and the Organizing committee.”
