Inspired by Rio? Want to host a Championship event?

By Paul Groves | 25 Aug, 2016

Rio gave us exciting races for both the men and the women and now that the athletes, coaches, managers, support teams, officials and spectators have returned home, or at least are on their way, we can look forwards to 2017.

We have already sent out bidding documents for our races but are holding open the bidding for the 2017 European Cups and European Junior Cups. Click here for the bidding document. These events are so very important in the development of our sport in Europe. They attract the best athletes not only from within Europe but also from the four corners of the world. Again and again we hear from athletes that they love racing in Europe and we hope to be able to continue to deliver the best events in the world. If you have not yet submitted a bid for a European Cup (of Junior Cup) then please check out these links. If you have any questions about delivering an event, please contact ETU Head Quarters. We will offer guidance and assistance.

There are also valuable Event Organisers’ Seminars each year alongside the Presidents’ Conference. This is a chance for event organisers to get together, to share ideas and to receive guidance about how events should be run in line with the ITU Event Organisers’ Manual. Those taking part will cover general requirements about organizing an ETU event, details on planning (Venue, Schedule, Operations, etc.), examples and practical exercises and will finish with a session on real lessons learned - from representatives of professional event organizers in triathlon. In recent years we have had presentations from Challenge, Powerman, Ironstar, Geneva LOC and TNatura. The next Conference is scheduled for February.

We are also looking for potential locations for the 2017 Triathlon U23 European Championships and 2017 Triathlon Club European Championships. Both events offer vital developmental opportunities to our younger athletes and to the club structure in Europe and once again, please contact Head Quarters if you need any help in coming to the decision to bid for one of the events.

Sprint Distance events are more popular now than ever before. They are fast, exciting and less demanding in terms of road-closures etc. ETU Executive Board would like to invite bids for the 2018 ETU Sprint Triathlon European Championships.

Our aim is for the event to showcase our sport with the following events:
• Sprint Triathlon;
• Paratriathlon European Championships;
• Triathlon junior European Championships (individual and mixed relay);
• Triathlon Standard (Olympic) distance Age Group European Championships;

The event is an ideal way for a city/town to promote a healthy lifestyle to its citizens, while also enjoying widespread international attention.

ETU will accept bids for the 2018 ETU Triathlon European Championships as per today. Click here for the bidding document.

Cities interested in hosting these Championships must submit their bid to ETU by October 7, 2016, with the successful city being notified following the ETU Executive Board meeting on 14 October 2016.
