We have received sad news that two events on the ETU Calendar have been cancelled.
The Romanian Triathlon Federation has just announced that due to contractual issues, the Constanta-Mamaia race, scheduled for the middle of September will not be taking place.
We have also heard from the Turkish Triathlon Federation that with regard to the Eğirdir race this coming weekend that this event will also be cancelled.
Turkish Triathlon Federation President, Hamdi Güneş, explained, “While we were discussing the events future we have received an official letter from the Governor of the city stating that because of declared state of emergency all of the officers (police) are called on duty and asked us to postpone the race to a further date . As soon as we received that info we have called you about the race prospect and mutually agreed that is better to cancel the event rather than arranging another date.”
Any costs incurred so far, such as airline tickets, will be covered by the National Federations upon presentation of evidence of booking and payment. Please contact the National Federations directly. For the Turkish Triathlon Federation, please contact Aslı Özdendir (firstname.lastname@example.org ) and for the Romanian Triathlon Federation, please use this address Peter Klosz (email@example.com ), copying ETU (firstname.lastname@example.org ) at your earliest convenience.
For our athletes this is a great disappointment, as we have seen great races at both venues in the past.
ETU remains confident that both federations can continue to deliver the other events on their race schedule. In particular, our end of season celebration of triathlon in Alanya, where the final rankings position will be decided and where the prize-money will be distributed to the top athletes, remains on the calendar and we look forwards to seeing all of our European athletes in the late summer sunshine of this ever-popular race.
