Riederer thrills home crowd as Swiss dominate European Cup in Geneva

By David Peddie | 20 Jul, 2014

Sven Riederer rolled back the years to record his first ETU European Cup win since 2006 on home soil in Geneva.

Riederer led home team-mate Ruedi Wild in a Swiss one-two in the Elite Men’s race with Frederic Belaubre (FRA) completing the podium for his first ETU podium since 2011.

Since making his debut on the European Cup circuit, Riederer has gone onto record some memorable results on the World Triathlon stage and this was his first European Cup race since 2009.

Lindsey Jerdonek (USA) recorded the first International win of her career with victory in the Elite Women’s race. The podium had a distinctly non-European flavour to it as Melinda Vernon (AUS) claimed the silver medal.

Emma Pallant, a Brit racing under the flag of the ITU, completed the Women’s podium with the bronze medal.

Celine Schaerer (SUI) finished tenth and with it the title of Swiss National Champion.
