“It’s something I’ve got to get my mind around. I’m now re-forming as someone who is still the same but with different aims. (...) Sport makes you more resilient.”
Claire is a vivacious athlete and her appearances in GB uniform were invariably accompanied by lots of laughter, spectacularly uncontrollable hair and medal-winning performances. She simply generated a buzz when she was speaking about her preparations for the race. Her enthusiasm is of the highly-infectious kind.
Her stand-out race this year was in Weert where she was the fastest of all the Brits and second-fastest woman on the day when she romped home to take the gold in the 30-34 category. She won medals in Tartu and in Glasgow, showing her power over both Sprint and Standard distances.
Well, yesterday she was interviewed by one of the UK’s main newspapers and what an open, frank and inspirational interview it was!
From us all at ETU, we wish Claire strength and fortitude in her journey and look forward to seeing her racing on the para-circuit. The best present we can all give to her is the promise of our support on that journey.
