Russia’s Andreev and Surikova star in Sigulda Winter Cup

By David Peddie | 26 Jan, 2014

Pavel Andreev and Yulia Surikova began 2014 in the best possible way as they cruised to at the ETU European Winter Triathlon Cup in Sigulda, Latvia.

The Russian duo controlled their respective races in sunny and dry conditions in Sigulda with temperatures at -13.

Surikova claimed her first European Winter Cup win since 2012, with Tatiana Charochkina and Olga Parfinenko completing the podium in a Russian one-two-three.

A new year, but old habits for Pavel Andreev as he recorded the eighth European Winter Cup win of his career.

Dmitriy Bregeda finished second in the Elite Men’s race for his first European Cup podium with Norway’s Kristian Monsen third.

Before the Elite races, over 100 age group athletes competed in the Latvian National Winter Championships with Inese Zvirgzdina and Gints Lusis claiming the gold medals.
