Baku 2015. The 1st European Games - Technical Officials

The Baku 2015 European Games will be the first ever major multi-sport event for the entire continent. Baku 2015 will be a celebration of elite sport in the capital city of Azerbaijan, a modern and dynamic European destination. The European Games will bring together more than 6,000 of the continent’s finest athletes over 17 days of competition, in an exciting range of traditional and innovative sports.  The Baku 2015 European Games will feature a total of 20 sports: 16 Olympic and four non-Olympic sports. The European Olympic Committees (EOC) dreamt of a creating a major multi-sport event that was challenging, innovative and modern. Baku 2015 is that dream becoming a reality. Alongside traditional sports such as Athletics, Aquatics and Gymnastics, exciting new sports such as 3x3 Basketball, Beach Soccer and Karate will also be showcased. To date, 11 sports will offer qualification opportunities for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games. A diverse Sports Programme has been created to ensure every day of competition is inspiring, ground-breaking and breath-taking. And with 245 gold medals to be won, competition will be intense for the honour to be called the first ever European Champion.

Baku’s Triathlon events promise plenty of opportunity for spectators to watch one of the world’s toughest endurance sports. The Women’s Triathlon event will take place on 13 June, and the Men’s Triathlon will take place the following day on 14 June 2015. Each event will feature 65 competitors swimming, cycling and running against each other with one common goal – to be the first competitor to cross the finish line in their medal event. The winner of each event will also gain their NOC direct qualification for the Triathlon event at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

The ETU Technical Committee sent out a communication yesterday (11th November, 2014) to all National Federations to announce that it is in the process of appointing the International Technical Officials for the 2015 Baku European Games.  ITU and ETU will apply an application system open for technical officials certified as ITU TO level 1, ITU TO level 2 and ITU TO level 3 from any National Federations affiliated with ITU and ETU.

The arrival of the Technical Officials according to the organising committee’s policy will be 4 days prior to the first competition day (9th of June) and the departure will be two days after the last competition day (16th of June).

The European National Federations reply to the ETU Technical Committee with a shortlist of eligible Technical Officials. The deadline will be 24th November, 2014. The National Federations are able to select:

- Up to two (2) officials

- Up to three (3) officials (one (1) of different gender)

The National Federations are advised to propose their highest classified Technical Officials to increase the chance of selection.

On 7th December, 2014, the ETU Executive Board will approve the thirty-four (34) Technical Officials to officiate at the 2015 Baku European Games based upon the selection from the ETU Technical Committee and the assigned TDs. The Two (2) reserves will be approved through the same process.

Any technical officials who feel that they qualify should contact their National Federation.
